Reasons number 312, 313, and 314 why I love Consuelo Castiglioni:

London Fash Week round UP!

September 24, 2009

There seems to be some Luella-Marc Jacobs telepathy going on (‘ello gigantic head-adorning bows!). Luella’s S/S 09 collection was one of my all-time favorites with its singular, almost-clashing color palette, dainty gloves, tweed, and frills galore. This time around, Miss Bartley created a much more simplistic and pared down assemblage, yet not without a touch of twee (namely those Peter Pan collars and giant neckline heart cut-outs!).

Luella’s focus on solid colors and a few polka-dotted pieces evoked a 60s era feel, while Christopher Kane’s bring us back about a decade earlier. His gingham experiment resulted in a sort of risque 50s housewife, but with modern forms, very ad rem to today!

Stumbling upon Erdem’s collection, I found myself completely head-over-flats! I love the romantic florals and lace and how he wasn’t afraid to play with 3-d structure.

As far as London goes, Charles Anastase has to take the cake (er, biscuit?). How can you not love his giant tent-like prairie dresses? I also admired his riskier constructions (namely the bottom two looks), which reminded me a tad of Rei Kawabuko.

Who’s ready for Italy and Paris? ON Y VA!

NY Fash Week (super-quick) round UP!

September 24, 2009

Checking in super fast to note some highlights from NY!

Gilt trip: Though DvF’s clothes failed to totally excite me (let’s move on from ethnic and animal prints…innovation!), I was immediately smitten with the gilded locks and lids of her models. Just like last spring (remember the beautiful rock-hippie wavy, hair-beribboned beauties?), DvF did come up with insanely adorable hair pieces!

I will skip a verbose explanation of Marc Jacob’s glory, because well, it’s Marc, and yeah, he’s always beyond words! Though, I must point out my favorite look(s) of all.

M by MJ: Absolutely enamoured with this geometric, multi-hued sweater!

MJ: Let’s fact it. The entire show was swoon-worthy and magic in its purest form found outside of DisneyWorld…and I happen to be a proud advocate for ruffles:

Supreme Shutterbug: Annie Leibovitz

August 9, 2009

Annie Leibovitz clearly possesses an unrivaled, and uncanny, penchant for storytelling. Throughout the 2K, the ultra-brill photog has exquisitely cinematized a few of my most favorite tales of yore, among them “The Wizard of Oz,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Alice in Wonderland.”

Muses for YOUses: Coco Rocha

July 30, 2009

Live from my personal Helicon: Coco Rocha seems to have the entire fashion world in the palm of her hand. Designers and editors alike are totally smitten with this charismatic beauty. La canadienne, discovered at an Irish dance competition, immediately captivated the world’s attention with her ruckus-causing sensation at Jean Paul Gaultier‘s F/W ’07 show. Not long after, she graced the (inner) cover of Vogue’s May 2007 issue featuring “The World’s Next Top Models,” shot by photog ingenue Steven Meisel, and, well, the rest is history! Now boasting countless covers in her repertoire and perchance achieving the pinnacle of modeldom with her YSL “Elle” fragrance campaign, not to mention a stint with E! Canada, is there anything this woman can’t do?

One thing’s clear: the world is CUCKOO for COCO!

“Alice” Update: Teaser Trailer!

July 22, 2009

Clickity click for the freshly released “Alice in Wonderland” trailer. Simultaneously bewitching and overtly maniacal…I’m thoroughly intrigued!

Keep an eye out for  Snape and Bellatrix. HP stars, to boot!

Meanwhile, last week a few more cast photos appeared on the Interweb:
